WHERE IT ALL BEGAN;
MR STANSFIELD BOTTOMLEY
The Bottomley heritage dates back to the 1950's with the original Mr Stansfield Bottomley. Mr Bottomley was a passionate small scale whisky producer, beginning his trade in West Yorkshire before moving on to Lincolnshire in the early 1980’s with his wife and two sons.
A FAMILY BUSINESS
Alan Bottomley, Stansfield’s youngest son, was inspired by his father from an early age - fascinated by the process of spirit production. With his inherited enthusiasm and skill, coupled with the rise in the craft market, Alan decided to modernise those nearly lost techniques and in 2016 he went to his partner Amy with his original idea. He realised that there were no other commercial distilleries in Lincolnshire producing a London Dry Gin and they could capitalise upon that. With the agreement of Amy and their daughter Molly, Lincolnshire's oldest distillery was founded.
During that initial fateful conversation in 2016, Alan also mentioned to Amy that he might like to start another business growing Christmas trees. Whilst this dream never was realised, it was the inspiration for our flagship product Pin Gin - derived from the image of pine needles we find on Christmas trees! Thus, the Pin & Tonic was born.
THE LAUNCH OF PIN GIN
After months of product development, Alan and Amy had a final recipe which they truly believed in. They knew they had found a gap in the market and deemed it different to anything else available on the shelves at that time. In early 2017, they launched to market with Bottomley Distillers’ flagship brand “Pin Gin” and founded what is now one of Lincolnshire’s fastest growing and most recognisable brands.
PEOPLE QUITE LIKED IT!
Alan and Amy were blown away by the reaction to the launch of their business. So much so, that in 2018 demand for their gin got so high that they needed to move out of their modest garage-based distillery and in to a unit in the quaint old market town of Louth, Lincolnshire. Here they invested in new, larger equipment and this allowed them to launch an entire range of Pin Gin flavours, undergoing a rebrand in the process.
WHERE ARE WE NOW?
Fast forward to Summer 2021 which saw a further expansion of Bottomley into our new 14,000 sq ft site - still in little old Louth! This plays host to our much-loved stills Rose, Stansfield and Chester. Today, Bottomley employs 10 members of staff and produces a whole host of spirits in addition to our original iconic Pin Gin - and we have BIG plans for the future!
